The National Association of Government Employees (NAGE/SEIU) Federal Division has secured a historic $60 million overtime settlement on behalf of more than 25,000 current and former Department of Veterans Affairs employees nationwide who were owed unpaid compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This landmark resolution stems from a national grievance filed by NAGE challenging the VA’s overtime compensation practices. The settlement resolves claims tied to unpaid overtime under FLSA and Title V and represents one of the largest FLSA settlements ever achieved for VA employees.
The settlement covers eligible VA employees who were impacted between April 5, 2017 and October 16, 2024. Title 38 employees and designated Hybrid Title 38 employees are not included in this settlement.
Individual payment amounts vary based on employment and payroll data during the covered period.
Distribution of settlement checks has officially begun and must be completed by the end of March.
To support a smooth and secure process, NAGE is coordinating in-person distribution efforts in partnership with local leadership to ensure employees receive their checks efficiently and have access to support during the process.
“This settlement represents accountability and fairness for VA employees who performed the work and deserved to be compensated properly,” said NAGE National President David J. Holway. “It reflects the strength of our union and our commitment to ensuring agencies are held accountable when employees’ rights are violated. Our members stood together, and this outcome demonstrates what collective action can achieve.”
This achievement underscores the importance of strong union representation and reinforces NAGE Federal Division’s ongoing commitment to protecting federal employees’ wage and hour rights. NAGE will continue to pursue every appropriate avenue to ensure our members are treated fairly and paid lawfully for the work they perform.
